Obituary for Dorothy Marion Ziemniak (Gee)

ZIEMNIAK, Dorothy (nee Gee)

On Easter morning, Sunday, April 21, 2019, Dorothy Marion Ziemniak passed away, surrounded by family. She was 83. A schoolteacher, talented writer and gifted storyteller, Dorothy was born February 27, 1936, to Margaret and Clifford Gee. In 1955, she married Chester Ziemniak, her beloved late husband of 53 years, and together they built their home in Ridgeville and raised their family. Dorothy will be dearly missed by her daughters, April Luska, Melody Burnham (Grayson) and Lelani Lopes (Jorge). Our 'Nana' was adored by her grandkids, Ashlie Luska (Paula) and Kylie Luska (Lauren), Kate Burnham (Amy) and Brandon and Meghan Lopes. Dorothy was a proud 'Great Nanny', to her greatgrandchildren, Mirabelle; Miles and Eric; Carter and Mason. Dorothy treasured time spent with family - camping across Canada with her daughters, baking shortbread with her late mother Margaret Gee and picking blueberries with her sister Julia Hierlihy and her late brother-in-law Glen Hierlihy. Dorothy was dear sister-in-law to Howard and the late Wanda McEachern. She was a beloved aunt to Colleen Hycz, Danny Hierlihy and Jimmy Hierlihy. Dorothy was lifelong friends with the late Myrna Macey. She will be missed by her church family, her neighbours, "the Bixby Babes", and her many close friends. Dorothy cherished her faith and the memories that filled her countless family photo albums. She was proud of her garden, she had her own "happy dance" and she loved any cat that crossed her path. Dorothy loved to laugh and use funny expressions like, "In two shakes of a lamb's tail!" Selfless and thoughtful, she always remembered to send cookies and birthday cards. Dorothy always made time for "a visit and a cup of tea." To be in her home was to feel loved. Family and friends will be received at the PEDLAR FUNERAL HOME, 1292 Pelham Street, Fonthill on Thursday, April 25th from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. The funeral service in celebration of Dorothy's life will take place at the Pelham Community Church, 461 Canboro Road, Fenwick on Friday, April 26th beginning at 11:00 am. A reception will follow prior to the interment at Lane Cemetery in St. Anns. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Welland Humane Society, Pelham Community Church, or the War Amps. Online Condolences may be shared at
