Obituary

Everett Michael Collins
Passed away peacefully at the Welland Hospital on Friday, October 18th, 2019 in his 86th year.
Predeceased by his beloved wife of Mardi Collins (2015). Loving father of Michael Collins (Karen Martin), Scott Collins (Mary McElrea) and special foster father to Linda Gluszek (John). Proud grandfather of Kathryn, Bailey and Rowan. Survived by son-in-law Bob Roest, nephew George Collins (Kim), Katie Staines, Gloria Staines as well as many nieces and nephews. Predeceased also by his beloved daughter Dianne Collins (2008), granddaughter Meaghan Collins (2018), brother George Collins (2000), brothers-in-law Len Staines (1980), John Staines (2012) and Bruce Staines (2015).

Everett worked at John Deere, WG Somerville and Son, and BP Canada - all in Welland. In 1957, after developing a keen interest in hairstyling, he graduated from Bruno's Academy of Hair Design in Hamilton. From 1958 to 1985 he owned and operated Bon Ton Hairstyling in Port Colborne. In 1985 he went on to work for the Lincoln County Board of Education (now the District School Board of Niagara) until his retirement in 1998. Everett was an award winning gardener, loved to hike and volunteered with the Bruce Trail Conservancy.

In keeping with Everett’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private interment will be held at Fonthill Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, November 30, 2019 from 2-4 pm at the Butcher & Banker Restaurant, 1440 Pelham Street, Fonthill.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the Bruce County Trail Conservancy or a charity of one's choice. Online condolences can be made at www.pedlarfuneralhome.ca

My condolences to Ev's family. Winston and he were good friends and I'm sure he could share many happy memories of times with Ev. I lost Winston October 1st with Alzheimers. Winston built the addition to the family home in Fonthill to accommodate Mardi's Mom. I can remember enjoyable impromptu visits to Mardi & Ev.

I'll miss my Sunday phone calls. We used to catch up on life on a weekly basis. Thanks for touching my life. He seemed to adjust after his wife passed, filling his days with geo-caching, learning to play bridge and trying his hand at painting. The last time Dad (Ev) came for a visit, he and my husband John went for a hike on the trails here in Pefferlaw. They were gone so long, I thought they'd gotten lost. I almost sent out a search party. We hope his journey home is a peaceful one. We raise our glasses to you one last time Dad (Ev). Linda and John
