Obituary

Bussmann, Felix Karl - The family of Felix Karl Bussmann announce his peaceful passing on July 8th, 2019 at the age of 89. Loving and devoted husband of 55 years to Veronika Bussmann (nee Seidel). Cherished father to sons Markus (Peggy), Stefan (Michel), and Michael (Simone). Proud Opa to Peter, Noah, Joshua, and Charlotte.

Felix Bussmann lived a full life. Born in 1929 in Feldhausen, Germany, Felix began work as an apprentice baker at age 14. He immigrated to Canada in 1953, became a Canadian citizen in 1958, and then joined the Canadian military, where he was taught to cook. Felix was soon back in Germany, this time as a Canadian soldier. He met and married Veronika in 1963, they started their family in Germany, and only returned to Canada in 1973, where he was posted to Borden, Alert, and finally Shilo. Felix retired from the military as a Master Warrant Officer in 1981, and within a few months was hired by Niagara College as a cooking instructor, a position he held until 1994. Felix and Veronika enjoyed retirement at their home in Welland until very recently, tending a large home and for many years a larger garden.

The funeral mass will take place at St. Alexander's Church, 50 Pelham Town Square, Fonthill on Friday July 12th, 2019 at 11:00 am, followed by lunch in the church hall. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Covenant House Toronto, or the charity of your choice. Online condolences can be shared at www.pedlarfuneralhome.ca.

Dear Veronica -- and all in your family: With deep sadness I receive the news about Felix, and upon learning of his death, I recall fondly the many years I celebrated the Mass at St. Alexander Church with you and Felix present most Sundays. I also recall him helping out "in the kitchen" (in the gathering room) whenever there was an event held there. I was unable to join you for the funeral Mass today due to commitments here at St. Thomas More, but be assured he will be prayed for at all our Sunday Masses and for a long time to come by myself personally. We have indeed lost a good Catholic gentleman and a fine contributor to the culinary arts and the community at large. May he rest in peace. (Fr.) Peter Rowe

I met Felix in 1982 when he joined Niagara College, at the time I was the Coordinator for the Cook Apprenticeship program. Felix and I worked together to develop the curriculum, manuals, lesson plans etc. The program was recognized by local Chefs who sent their apprentices as one the best all round training to prepare the apprentices for their future in the Hospitality Industry. Felix made such an impact with the students with his knowledge, cooking/ baking skills and his teaching method many of his students achieved position as chefs, teachers and some own there own businesses. We worked so well together we became good friends, When I count my blessings, Felix's friendship tops the list

We have been across the street neighbours for 24 yrs with Felix and Veronica. Felix was one of the first neighbours to welcome us to the neighbourhood. The friendship grew quickly. Wonderful fresh fruit and vegetables were delivered by Felix on a weekly visit sometimes daily if he had lots to share! We learned so much from him and all the great life stories he shared with us. His death breaks my heart as I know how truly much “life” meant to him and his days spent with Veronica. The world has lost a great man. We truly loved him . I am deeply sorry that Steve and I are away on vacation and will not be able to attend Felix’s funeral service. Sending our love and sympathies to Veronica and family. Steve & Sandy McKeen and family
