WRAIGHT, Thomas Garry

It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of Thomas Garry Wraight on Friday April 24, 2020 at the St. Catharines General Hospital with his beloved wife Christine by his side in his 77th year.

Tom you were my dear husband and companion of nearly 51 years. A devoted father to Jennifer and Trevor and proud papa to Grayden, Finley and your chosen granddaughter Brianna Bass (Baby Bear).
Tom you were very loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew you.

The memorial service to honour Tom's life will be announced at a later date.

Thank you to all our family, friends and neighbours for your kindness and caring. A very special thank you to our dear friend Peter Race who has been there for Tom and Christine through Tom's battle with cancer from the very beginning.

We would like thank our family doctor - Dr. Lovegrove who from the beginning, always pointed us in the right direction. Special thanks to Dr. Kapoor and his team from St. Joseph's Hospital and special thank you also to Dr. Wasserman and all the doctor's and nurses at St. Catharines General Hospital in the Oncology Unit for their excellent treatment and empathetic care.

My deepest condolences to Mr. Wraight's family and friends. He was my teacher at Eastdale - the course was Man in Society and it was one of my favourites. To this day, the ideas and philosophies we shared in the class come in to focus. Always helping me to look at situations differently. That was a very long time ago, but, it feels like yesterday. I'm sure he has touched many lives in many ways and will most certainly be missed.

Mr Wraight taught me in the (unfortunately named) Man in Society class at Eastdale, forty years ago. That course, and his teaching of it, changed my intellectual life and put me on a course of critical thinking about the world around me and the role of those who had power and those who did not. I have often remembered him fondly. I hope that in following his footsteps into a career in education, that I have measured up to him in some small way.

My association with Thom spans many years based on our love of golf and good fellowship. Thom was always a pleasure to be with,
not a statement I make lightly. We spent many years together on Myrtle Beach trips. Thom, Guz and I spent many hours together because we all enjoyed a smoke, a beer and good companionship. He will be missed on the golf course and restaurants afterwards. A good man gone.

Tom and I arrived at Eastdale (WESS) the same year (1967). New guys on the block. We played a lot of basketball. He was always game for «enlightened» history and political discussions. He was before his time as an educator, definitely not conservative. Enjoyed his subtle sens of humour. Sorry to see you go , Tom. Rest in peace! Condolences to Christine and family. Robert Parent
